Nyali Night Life

Nightlife in Mombasa

Restaurants in Mombasa provide all the various types of cuisine you would expect from across the world, from Chinese to Indian to Italian, the best fillet steak you can find to lobster, prawns, oysters all fresh from the Indian Ocean.

Restaurants range from cafes with everything cheap and easy on the menu at £5 to £15 a head, to exquisite fine dining at about £30 pounds plus each. Generally it still is pretty good value for money here, beer is about 50p depending where you go, however wine in restaurants can be expensive so that's one to watch out for. Another plus about our location is that most places are 5 to 15 minutes drive by taxi from the Hotel. There is also a huge, diverse and interesting to say the least “after dinner” night time party club scene - Africa style!

We have put together a few well known local spots here purely for your information, the rest is up to you!

Mvita Grill - Nyali Beach Hotel
Based right next door to the kitesurf and watersports Centre is Nyali Beach Hotel's grill room. Famous for the Surf and Turf and Steak Diane! Dinner is seated around solid wooden tables on high back chairs under chandeliers, right by the beach! There is a really talented jazz band who play every friday night with a bass player who sings like Louis Armstrong!

Just Drinks
Only a 5 minute drive from the Hotel is Just Drinks, a well known after work bar and great place to begin and end the evening! Just Drinks overlooks the glassy water of Mombasa Creek, and combined with scarlet, stunning, sunsets you can see how easy it is to fall in love with Africa.

Misono
Definately one of our favourites! Tepanyaki cooked infront of you, tables seating 8 - 10 around a hot plate with a menus of 8 or more courses means a great night out! Sushi and sashimi from yellow fin tuna caught off the coast means we are here as often as possible! Yum!

Yuls’ Beach Bar & Restaurant
Very popular with air crew and a younger crowd from all the nearby hotels and is based on the busy tourist part of the Bamburi Beach strip. Everything from salad to burgers to chicken tikka!

Il' Covo Bar, Music & Restaurant
Small bar and newly introduced restaurant set up in what used to be a house on the beach. Popular with all the European locals coming out on holidays from Uni as well as well informed tourists. Italian run.

Nyali Cinemax & 10 pin Bowling
A new 300 seat cinema in Nyali, with up to date movies, pop corn etc..  Based at the Cinema complex is also a 6 lane bowling alley, with all the fittings on the lanes for the little kids to have a go too. Its a 5 minute drive by taxi from Nyali Beach Hotel.

Flood-lit Go Karting - till 10pm
Go Karting at night with a burger to follow! A good laugh, Austrian-run, pretty well managed track and cheap and cheerful bar food.

Tamarind Restaurant - Voted Best Seafood Restaurant in Kenya
One of our favourites. Tamarind has a beautiful creek-side outdoor setting, amazing menu, lobster, steak, crab, a must-do on a special night! Live jazz type band on most nights. You can also opt to go out for dinner on the Tamarind Dhow that leaves the jetty at 6.30pm to cruise around the creek at sunset before you have a lobster or steak dinner on board. Very romantic!

Golden Key Casino

Attached to the Tamarind Restaurant is the tastefully presented Golden Key Casino, great for a quick flutter or a drink at the bar after dinner.

Tembo (Disco)

The “full on” disco club scene of Mombasa, tourists and locals. Huge Club, indoor and outdoor, good mix between the very popular modern Kenyan music scene and US & UK dance charts.. and techno if you ask! Great place to experience the holiday night scene in Kenya!

A small tip - we always recommend you wear insect repellent out in the evenings  ; )
